Arlene Sandberg of LMN Tree has a good beginning of the year activity titled: Welcome To School Making Words and Sentences. Students will make 2, 3, 4, and 5 words from "Welcome to School" and then write sentences using those words.

3-5
Tracee Orman has created a Common Core Vocabulary Using Context Clues that is perfect for students in grades 3-5. This is a one page graphic organizer that will help your students use context clues to make inferences and determine meaning.

6-12
Addie Williams has a fun activity called Expository Writing-Students Create a Themed Newspaper. This is a creative way to help students learn more about expository writing. There are 6 pages included in this free resource!
