Monthly Reading Logs for the School Year!

Are your students struggling to make gains in reading? Does it seem like many are not even interested in reading? If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, then you NEED to check out our Monthly Reading Logs that are sure to be a hit with your class!

We have designed creative reading logs for the months August-June, depending on when your school year starts. The goal is to get the students to read at least 560 minutes a month (close to 20 minutes each day). We have included a parent/guardian letter to send home that explains the program. For our classes, we made it extra fun by allowing students to bring in a pop (or drink of their choice) to class on the reading award day. Each student that makes the goal of 560 minutes gets a certificate (included). There is even an option to award the top two readers each month if you choose to do this as well on the certificates! 

Each month has a unique theme. For example: September's theme is Football. Boys especially love this contest because it gets them excited to read for a purpose. Some other month's are: Halloween Haunted House for October, Valentine's Dance for February, and Baseball for April! Below is an example from October!

Each month's log offers the students space to track their minutes and to then have their parents/guardians sign at the end of the month. The students bring in their logs, awards are handed out, and a Pop a Top celebration can be had during any class you choose. For a fun sound, we have the students open up their pops on the count of three. It makes a cool noise! Below is the letter we send home!

In our classrooms, the love of reading soared! We know it was not just our reading logs that were the cause of this, but we saw the excitement and motivation that our students displayed each month when a new log was handed out, and when completed ones were turned in. Students were enjoying reading and talking more and more about the books they were reading with their friends. The engagement was obvious!
